What we are looking for

The Field publishes accountability reporting from Africa and the world. These are the stories we most want to see pitched.

• West Africa. The Sahel (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger), Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau and the coastal states. This is our biggest gap.
• Somalia and Somaliland. Elections, security, politics and the courts. Stories about prisons go to the OPR Journal instead.
• The Great Lakes. DR Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.
• North Africa. Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria and Morocco: accountability stories about governments and security forces.
• Southern Africa. Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa.
• Anywhere. Court filings, official documents, leaked records and first-hand testimony that readers can check.

What we do not take

• Opinion without original reporting.
• Stories about prisons, detention or custody. Our editor co-founded the Organization for Prisoners' Rights, so we send those to the OPR Journal.
• Pieces already published elsewhere.
